The subversion of those norms call to us over and over. The word "paraphilia" came into use in 1903 and describes the "experiencing of intense sexual arousal from atypical objects, situations, fantasies, behavior, or individuals..." but no consensus has ever been reached on the difference between an “unusual sexual interest"—their way of referencing kink or fetish—and a paraphilia. One source cites as many as 549 types of paraphilia. Sex and your relationship to it doesn’t have to live within the confines of the expected.
