    The SUU Eccles APEX presentation on November 7 featured Author and Professor Dr. Rik Scarce. His presentation was titled “Exploring the Civil War’s Timeless Legacy”. Dr. Rik Scarce joined Skidmore College faculty in 2003, where he currently works as a Professor for Environmental Sociology, Social Theories of Environment, Visual Sociology, Video Ethnography, and Contemporary Social Theory. He has created multiple films and authored multiple books, from his film on barefoot running titled Impact: Mobility and Modernity Reconsidered, and his most recent book, Creating Sustainable Communities: Lessons from the Hudson River Region.
  • 10/31/2024: Drew Robinson
    The SUU Eccles APEX presentation on October 31 featured mental health advocate and former Major League Baseball player Drew Robinson. His presentation was titled “Strength Isn’t Always Physical”. Drew Robinson was drafted by the Texas Rangers out of high school, and played parts of 12 seasons with the Rangers, St. Louis Cardinals, and San Francisco Giants, whom he currently works with as a Mental Health Advocate. In 2020, he miraculously survived a suicide attempt, resulting in a newfound purpose of de-strigmatizing mental health and helping others.

    The SUU Eccles APEX presentation on October 17 featured Poet Paisley Rekdal. Her presentation was titled “West: A Translation”. Paisley Rekdal has authored multiple non-fiction books and several collections of poetry, her most recent titled Real Toads, Imaginary Gardens: On Reading and Writing Poetry Forensically. Her work, West: A Translation was the subject of her presentation.

    The Grace A. Tanner Lecture on October 3, 2024, featured Poet Camille Dungy. Her presentation was called, “Soil, African Diaspora, and American Land”. She has taught many creative writing and poetry workshops and courses, including as a Professor of English and Director of the Creative Writing Program at Colorado State University.
