Episode Summary
Our guest this week has so much wisdom to impart and we absolutely loved our chat Devon based Postpartum Physio, Victoria Caulfield. In February this year the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (RCOG) published a policy statement identifying key opportunities to tackle pelvic floor dysfunction through improved education and access to information. They say pelvic health support should be tailored to the individual, and be provided from a young age and throughout women’s lives. The RCOG are calling for action to reduce the number of women living with poor pelvic floor health, revealing new data that over 60% of UK women have at least one symptom of poor pelvic floor health, worryingly, one in four women have never done pelvic floor exercises that can prevent and improve symptoms.Victoria’s passion is educating women about good pelvic health through current research and working with people who may be experiencing symptoms. This can be anything from painful sex to urinary incontinence, prolapse, perimenopause symptoms and postnatal rehabilitation. Her current caseload of women she's supporting ranges from 19 years old to 75, and tells us that ‘good pelvic health is for life and for everybody!’This episode includes everything you need to know about prolapse and pelvic floor health, we discuss Pelvic Organ Prolapse and Victoria explains the different types, the symptoms and sensations along side the non invasive treatments and exercises. Plus she tells us why she doesn’t like the word ‘prolapse’. Pessaries, local oestrogen and the squatty potty are all in here! Victoria tells us about hypertonic pelvic floors, and how a blueberry can help support our pelvic health, and much much more!If you’ve enjoyed our Podcast please consider buying us a Ko-Fi.
