Episode Summary

Leaders cannot exist without followers. But followers cannot be coerced. A good boss must be a good leader. If not, followers will desert or mutiny and find a new leader. This is the eternal dynamic between a leader versus a boss. And leaders versus followers. Traditionally, the mark of a strong tech company has been its innovation first, and company culture second. However, when it comes to creating a startup society, you have to start with community culture first and then cultural innovation. Cultural innovation means probing the past and learning from it. In this episode of the Network State Podcast, we uncover how human history is the basis for understanding the way we interact with each other. With a strong insight into the history that shaped us, we highlight what rules have guided us to where we are today. As we dive deeper into how to build a new society, we retrace the steps of how countries were built in the first place. Finally, from the point of view of an entrepreneur, we analyze how much easier it is to use the iPhone, one of the most advanced handheld devices on the market versus being the founder of the company that makes iPhones, Apple Inc, one of the most successful companies of all time. In this episode, you will learn the following: 1. How startup societies are different from startups 2. How learning from history makes you a better leader vs boss 3.
