Episode Summary

Podcast Introduction Today we’re going to read Genesis 40-43, and I’m calling the episode “Joseph As A Type.” Joseph As A Type The Old Testament has many types in its pages. A type is a person or thing that pre-figures, foreshadows, whispers of, or points to a person or thing in the New Testament. Joseph was a type of Jesus. Here are just a few of the similarities between Joseph and Jesus: Joseph was the first-born son of Jacob. Jesus was the first-born son of Mary (and the only begotten Son of God the Father) Joseph was loved by his father. Jesus is the beloved son of the Father Joseph was hated by his brothers. Jesus was hated by His brothers. Joseph was hated for his words. Jesus was hated for his words. Joseph was thrown into a pit. Jesus was put in a tomb. Joseph was taken out of the pit, alive. Jesus was resurrected from the tomb. Joseph was a shepherd. Jesus is the Good Shepherd Both were prophesied to be rulers. Joseph was stripped of his coat. Jesus was stripped of his coat. Joseph was sent by his father to his brothers.  Jesus was sent by His Father to Israel. Both went to Egypt. Both were falsely accused. Both were punished. Both were with two others condemned to die, one of which was pardoned and given life. All knees bowed to Joseph. All knees will bow to Jesus. Pharaoh appointed Joseph to be the sole source of life for all. God appointed Jesus to be our sole source of eternal life. Joseph was 30 years old when he started working for Pharaoh. Jesus was about 30 years old when He began His ministry. Joseph’s brothers did not recognize him. Jesus’ own people didn’t either. While only Jesus was truly sinless, Joseph is one of the few people significantly written about in the Bible of which no sins are mentioned.
