Episode Summary

In this week’s podcast Jinty and Lou get interviewed by their guest Ruby Walsh who is researching for her book. We speak openly and honestly about the menopause through the dark times to now being able to understand what are bodies were going through and how women are not considered valid in society once they can no longer produce children. We look at some of the more unusual menopausal symptoms in an A-Z of symptoms and it’s not all about hot flushes and brain fog!We discuss the positives of friendship and how through the pandemic we might have unwittingly ‘pruned’ our friends and Jinty has some breaking fashion news, we also discuss Ricky Gervais’s Afterlife and the lasting legacy the series has given us. Do you know where ‘Pinch, Punch first of the month’ came from? Neither did we until Jinty investigated! There’s a new book for The Book Collective, Girl, Woman. Other by Bernadine Evaristo who we discovered after reading The Female Lead, we loved her story and are looking forward to reading up to page 150 for the next week.In the foodie we celebrate Chinese New-Year with a traditional Chinese tea ceremony. And there’s a new WI from one of the Collective. Our guest this week is 24 year old Ruby Walsh who wants to find out more about peri menopause, she asked if she could interview us, well obviously we agreed - mainly because menopausal women are so often only written about in the very stereotypical way- hot flushes and being chaotic! And although both these things may happen it certainly does not represent most women. We thought it would be nice to chat with Ruby on the podcast so we can find out more about her and she can turn the tables and ask us some questions about our own menopause which we thought may resonate with some of you. It’s an open conversation and no topic is off limits. Ruby says, ‘as women, we experience a lot of pressure in our lives, from being “too this'', or “too that”, reminded of the time-restraints, that our fertile clock is ticking and that, if you are not fertile, your value as a woman is diminished. We go through stages in our lives, constantly changing and evolving, and yet one very important change, is not spoken about enough, especially not inter-generationally, and that is menopause.’ In the Book Collective we are looking forward to starting Girl, Woman, Other by Bernadine Evaristo, the Booker judges rated this book as ‘passionate, razor sharp, brimming with energy and humour, a must read about modern Britain and womanhood…dazzling.’ We are going to read up to page 150 for next week’s book discussion. For the Foodie as it was Chinese New-Year when we recorded the podcast, Jinty prepared a traditional Chinese tea ceremony - we learn the correct way to drink the tea and how to appreciate the flavours. There’s a new WI and it’s from Elena one of the Collective and she has invited us to learn a dance routine…as we both have no coordination it’s going to be a fun month dancing! As our campaign for a Menopause Clinic in Devon begins to build momentum we have a new email address for anyone to send their testimonies into about menopause care in Devon: menopasueclinicdc@gmail.comWe also have new hashtag #wheresmyclinic A petition is coming soon along with a campaign Facebook group Stay in touch Jinty and Lou --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/womenkindcollectivepodcast/message Hosted on Acast.
