Episode Summary
As you know, on March 12th we sadly lost a titan of British media - Dame Jenni Murray.I had the real privilege of interviewing Jenni in the early days of Crisis What Crisis? at a time when the podcast was really just finding its feet. She was open, generous, and kind - bringing the same warmth and razor-sharp intellect to our conversation that she gave to the millions who listened to her on BBC Women’s Hour for decades. In this episode, we spoke about her battle with cancer and her lifelong struggle with obesity, and the fat shaming she recieved from her own mother. She showed me that the "composed professional" that we all new from the radio was at times a mask for a deeper, quieter desperation. Perhaps most movingly, she shared with me her "rock bottom" moment and her phone call she had with the Samaritans...Jenni was a pioneer who taught us that no topic was too difficult to discuss and that resilience is often found in the most honest conversations. She was a champion for women’s voices and a legendary broadcaster who will be sorely missed.I wanted to pay tribute to her and give you the chance to listen to her incredible life story one more time.
