Episode Summary

Seen By God Today’s reading is Genesis 16–19. These chapters move through familiar stories of promise, failure, judgment, and mercy. Even so, one truth rises above everything else. God sees. In every wilderness and every hard moment, He is paying attention. The title “Seen By God” is more than a theme. It is the experience of a servant woman at a spring in the desert, and it is still the hope of every believer who feels forgotten. Commentary In this episode, we look at how easily we can grow tired of waiting on God. When that happens, we sometimes begin “helping” Him with His plan. Sarai and Abram did this with Hagar, and the results came quickly. There was jealousy. There was mistreatment. There was broken relationship. Yet even in the middle of that mess, the Lord stepped in and met Hagar when she ran from home. At that spring, Hagar learned something important about God. He called her by name. He asked where she had come from and where she was going. Then He gave her a hard instruction along with a real promise. She discovered that God hears her cry and sees her pain. That is why she used that remarkable name, the God who sees me. In this episode, I talk about how that same God sees us when we feel misunderstood, blamed, or overlooked. His direction is always linked to His care. We also look briefly at the wider story. God renewed His covenant with Abraham. Later, God judged Sodom and Gomorrah. These scenes can feel heavy, but they show us something central. God is holy, righteous, and just. He is also patient, personal, and aware of every person involved. The God who saw Hagar by the spring and remembered Abraham during judgment is the same God who sees and remembers you today. On This Date in Church History Today we look at three moments from November 17. Under Diocletian, many early believers faced pressure as scriptures were burned and churches destroyed, yet they chose faithfulness over safety. John Knox returned to Scotland in 1558 and preached boldly, helping launch a movement that shaped churches for centuries. In 1947, Richard Wurmbrand was arrested for preaching Christ, and his later work highlighted the needs of persecuted believers. These stories remind us that God strengthens His people in difficult times. Support the Show Thank you for listening to Lifespring!
