Episode Summary

Summary Welcome to Season 3 of the Lifespring! One Year Bible Rewind! I’m Steve Webb, your OG Godcaster, and it feels great to be back behind the microphone. In this first episode of the new season, we open the New Testament book of Romans—chapters 1 and 2 from the New Living Translation. It’s one of the most powerful letters ever written, and it lays the foundation for so much of what we believe as followers of Jesus Christ. Paul wrote this letter while he was in Corinth, around A.D. 57. The church in Rome was already growing, filled with both Jewish and Gentile believers. In Romans, Paul clearly explains that salvation comes through faith in Christ alone. Everyone—no matter their background—needs God’s grace. Romans 1 and 2 remind us that the gospel reveals both God’s righteousness and our need for it. We learn that no one is without excuse, because God’s truth has been made plain to all. In this episode, I read both chapters and share a few personal reflections. I talk about what it means to truly belong to Jesus—not just to believe in Him, but to live as those who are His. I also highlight Paul’s challenge to the religious and the self-assured in chapter 2: it’s not enough to know what’s right; we must actually do what is right in God’s eyes. True faith results in changed hearts and transformed lives. As always, we’ll also look back through time with On This Date in Church History. Today we remember the North American martyrs—Jesuit missionaries like Isaac Jogues and Jean de Brébeuf—who gave their lives sharing Christ with the indigenous peoples of North America. We’ll also meet Saint Varus, a Roman soldier who joined imprisoned Christians and paid for that faith with his life. This episode also marks the start of some exciting new elements this season: a prayer segment, weekly reading schedule, and a renewed commitment to the Value-for-Value model that keeps Lifespring Media ad-free.
