Episode Summary

As For Me And My House Today’s reading is Joshua 21–24, and these closing chapters of the book bring us to a turning point. The land has been given, the promises have been kept, and Joshua is near the end of his life. In this episode, we look at his final challenge to Israel and what it means today to say, As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Commentary Joshua reminds the people that every good promise God made has come to pass. The victories they enjoy are not because of their strength. The Lord fought for them, drove out their enemies, and gave them cities and fields they did not build or plant. Because of that, Joshua urges them to hold fast to God, to love Him, and to keep His commands. Obedience is meant to grow out of love, not only fear. When you love someone, you want to choose what honors them. In the episode I talk about how that works in a marriage and how it applies to our walk with God. Joshua knows that some people are still clinging to idols, so he calls them to a clear decision. You cannot serve the Lord and keep your idols at the same time. So he says, Choose this day whom you will serve, and then declares his own choice with courage and clarity. On This Date in Church History In today’s On This Date in Church History segment, we visit two very different moments that share the same heartbeat. We look back to William Carey in the late 1700s as he challenges the church to take the Great Commission seriously and to use real means to send missionaries. Then we move to the twentieth century as Billy Graham preaches in a troubled America and points people again to the unchanging hope of Christ. Together, their stories remind us that every generation is called to go and to speak.
