Episode Summary

I Will Sing To the Lord Today’s reading is Psalms 12–14, and the theme “I Will Sing to the Lord” echoes through every chapter. In these psalms David wrestles with discouragement, deception, and the feeling that God has forgotten him. However, these chapters also show how he found renewed confidence and hope by turning his eyes upward. As a result, this episode invites us to discover the same steady truth: even when our feelings waver, God remains faithful. Chapter 12 — A Cry for Truth In this psalm, David cries out because the faithful have vanished and lies seem to dominate everything around him. Moreover, those spreading falsehoods speak with bold arrogance, convinced that no one can stop them. Yet, God responds with a powerful promise: “I will do something. I will rescue all who suffer.” This reassurance reminds us that God still listens, sees, and acts even when corruption seems overwhelming. Furthermore, David celebrates that God’s Word is pure — like silver refined seven times. This contrast between the empty talk of liars and the enduring truth of Scripture highlights why David (and we) can trust the Lord completely. For readers today, this is not simply ancient poetry; instead, it is timeless truth preserved through centuries. If you would like to read these chapters online, you can do so at BibleGateway. Chapter 13 — From Despair to Song David asks the piercing question four times: “How long?” Many believers still identify with that feeling. In addition, Spurgeon famously said that whenever we read the psalms, we find David already in whatever corner we occupy. That is certainly true here. David felt forgotten, overwhelmed, and alone. But God had not forgotten him — and God has not forgotten you. David realizes that he had been “taking counsel in his own soul,” turning problems over in his mind and growing more discouraged. Then, he shifts his focus. He asks God to enlighten his eyes. As a result, his entire outlook changes. He moves from despair to trust, from sorrow to singing. He says, “My heart shall rejoice… I will sing.” His decision to trust God leads him to celebrate the Lord’s goodness. On This Date in Church History On this date, we remember two significant events. First, George Whitefield — one of the great voices of the Great Awakening — prayed on the day before his passing, “Lord Jesus, I am weary in Thy work, but not of it.” Likewise, his legacy reminds us to persevere and serve faithfully. Second, Pope John Paul II became the first pontiff to visit Ireland, drawing crowds of more than two million. Together, these stories show how God uses His people to influence nations and generations. Support the Show Thank you for listening to Lifespring! One Year Bible Rewind.
