He encouraged Timothy to keep the gift God gave him alive and emphasized the importance of actively using one’s gifts for God’s glory and Kingdom. Paul urged him to stir up and maintain the gift God bestowed upon him. He said that God has given believers power, love, and sound judgment, rather than a spirit of fearfulness. Paul’s words serve as a reminder that the gifts from God are to be actively used and not passively awaited.
