But when people hear “don’t judge,” they often assume we’re never allowed to confront evil or call wrongdoing what it is. Jesus’ point in Matthew 7 is not that discernment is forbidden. His target is hypocrisy: the log-in-your-own-eye problem. When we keep our account with God clear, we can address sin in a way that aims for repentance, restoration, and real health in the body of Christ. In other words, the goal is not to win an argument or shame someone. The goal is to love them enough to tell the truth, while refusing to hide our own compromise behind religious words.
