In this super candid episode, Bacon Sports Founder Rob Cressy talks about the future of Bacon Sports plus his goal of inspiring 1 million people to live the life they dream. Included in this is are how he is combining both of his brands, Cress Media and Bacon Sports, under one roof to become a sports content agency that also runs a sports community. He also shares the details of the personal development platform that he is building to help inspire one million people. If anything Rob said in this podcast resonated with you, you want to be part of this journey, you want to help out, or if you want to work with him, hit Rob up at rob@baconsports.com or on Twitter @robcressy. Here is a transcription of the podcast for those that would prefer to read it:  What I want to talk about is what is going on in the world of Bacon Sports. I always want to be transparent about everything that’s going on as I believe there are a lot of learning opportunities that can be had from it. There’s two main things that I want to talk about. * The Bacon Sports rebrand * Inspiring 1 million people to live the life they dream Let’s start with the Bacon Sports rebrand. For the last 3 years I’ve had two brands, Bacon Sports, which is the sports publisher and sports fan community, and Cress Media, the sports content agency. These two were separate for one reason. Back in the day when i was talking to brands and agencies I didn’t want to send them to a sports blog as that wouldn’t deliver the value of what we can do on the business side of things. Because of that I created Cress Media as a way to convey the content creation and digital strategy capabilities of what we can do. Essentially we took the things we learned how to be great at with building a community, creating content in multiple ways on multiple platforms, engaging fans, increasing reach, and ultimately growing a brand, and offered up those services. As we’ve continued to see success on the Cress Media side the publishing industry has been on the decline, specifically on the monetization side of things. I realized right out of the gate when i started Bacon Sports that monetizing solely via ad revenue wasn’t the right strategy. That is completely playing out in the marketplace right now, as we are seeing media companies and publishers laying off tons of people. Because of this, what started as Bacon Sports being my primary focus right out of the gate, transitioned to Cress Media becoming my primary focus. The reason is because in order to run a business you have to be able to monetize. So while this is going on I would often get the question, what is the difference between Cress Media and Bacon Sports. I would give the CliffNotes version of what I just told you, one is sports content agency, one is our sports fan community. It is not easy to run one brand none the less two brands on top of running your own personal brand. I’ve certainly entertained the idea of throwing everything under one roof, but like many things in life it can be a matter of timing. Well it just so happens that both the Cress Media and Bacon Sports websites are 3 years old, which in the tech world is about a million years ago. Because of this it gave me a great opportunity to reevaluate everything that’s going on with my brands. I came to the conclusion, that in the interest of clarity and growth, that the best move is to combine everything together under the Bacon Sports name, unifiying the brands, with a new website. Moving forward Bacon Sports will be a sports content agency first, and we just so happen to also runs our own sports fan community. There will be absolute clarity on what we do and who we work with. We do digital strategy and content creation for forward thinking brands and agencies looking to activate ...

Should fan loyalty exist in sports? One school of thought is of course it should. However you were raised or the city you were born in are the teams you should root for and be loyal to. The other school of thought is no, team owners and players often don’t show loyalty to the fans in the name of chasing the all mighty dollar. Rob Cressy is joined by Benjamin Christensen on the Bacon Sports podcast to talk about fan loyalty in sports. This comes on the heels of the Pittsburgh Pirates ownership trading Andrew McCutchen and Gerrit Cole, which prompted Rob to jump ship and start rooting for the Cubs (until a new owner is in place in Pittsburgh.) Feel free to chime in on Facebook with your thoughts as this is certainly a highly debated topic. SUBSCRIBE TO THE BACON SPORTS PODCAST! Rep The Squad is changing the way the jersey game is played by allowing sports fans to rent jerseys from their favorite teams. When I first heard about the concept I was uncertain about it. As someone who is very particular about the jerseys he rocks why would I want to rent one for $19.95 when I could just buy one instead? To help sort this out myself, Gibson Smith, and Hoopstergram’s Tom Phillips aka The Hoopster Nation crew jump on the Bacon Sports podcast to give our candid thoughts on the concept of renting jerseys, breaking down how Rep The Squad’s jersey subscription works, how jerseys lovers should think about NBA jerseys vs NFL jerseys, why giving the gift of jerseys is a fabulous idea, plus why this idea make so much sense for jersey loving parents who want to get their kids into jerseys. GET A 2-WEEK FREE TRIAL BY GOING TO REPTHESQUAD.COM AND USING PROMO CODE “BOOM”  For those that would prefer some written thoughts that go above and beyond what we dish about on the podcast I’ve got you covered. Before I get into the nuts and bolts of Rep The Squad’s jersey subscription service I want to address the thing that I find most important. Does this company get jersey culture and can I see them being a valuable part of the jersey loving community? In order to judge this I looked at the stable of jerseys they had in their locker. Being the hoopster that I am I naturally went to the NBA first. Since Rep The Squad just launched in August they are only in a few select markets (Seattle, Denver, Detroit, the Bay Area/LA.) Despite this I found the selection of NBA jerseys to my liking. It was a nice mix of current players and throwbacks, which appeals to both a younger generation as well as those of us who love nostalgia. The first jersey that I saw was a Kevin Durant Sonics. Immediately I liked where this was going as on a previous podcast we dished about our Top 5 Seattle SuperSonics jerseys ever and KD was on the list. What makes that jersey special is Durant was only in Seattle for one season before the team unfortunately got moved to Oklahoma City. That season he averaged 20 ppg and won Rookie of the Year. The casual fan might not remember that Durant played in Seattle, and even fewer fans will be rocking that jersey since he became much more popular in Oklahoma City and Golden State. It is a nice mix high performance with an element of obscurity. After that I immediately went to see what other SuperSonics jerseys they had available. Too much of my delight I spotted a Shawn Kemp and Gary Payton jersey. Well done Rep The Squad. Upon further browsing here are some other quick thoughts about NBA jerseys I saw and loved. My favorite jersey of all time is the old school Denver Nuggets with the rainbow colors and the white mountains. It has been on my jersey bucket list forever. Both Dikembe Mutombo and Alex English are available options. For the basketball lover the Golden State Warriors are the gift that keeps on giving. Not only were the usual suspects of Steph Curry, Draymond Green, Kevin Durant, and Klay Thompson available, but so were throwback jerseys for Tim Hardaway and Chris Mullin. Major bonus points for this. The only thing I ask for is that they get a Mitch Richmond jersey in there ASAP so we can complete Run TMC (which would make a great group jersey #squadgoals.) Their Lakers jerseys were on point as they nailed the throwbacks with Magic, Worthy,

Yesterday the Steelers lost to the Patriots in the most gut punching way ever. Immediately upon the interception happening I turned off the TV and sat there on my couch in silence. I felt like I was going to throw up. It was at this moment where I was searching to figure out what to do next to not continue to feel this way. This video is a look into how I effectively dealt with the emotional bag of crap I was given and found a way out of it. In the video I mention three books (which you can pick up from Amazon): * Tribe Of Mentors by Tim Ferriss (which was the best book I read in 2017) * The Obstacle Is The Way by Ryan Holiday (which is one of the three best books I’ve ever read) * Man’s Search For Meaning by Victor Frankl SUBSCRIBE TO THE BACON SPORTS PODCAST! Here is a transcription of the video: Last night the Steelers lost to the Patriots in the most gut punching way ever. Immediately upon the interception happening I turned off the TV and sat there on my couch in silence. I felt like I was going to throw up. Anyone who has experienced this before knows how awful of a feeling this is. It was at this moment where I was searching to figure out what to do next to not continue to feel this way. I certainly wasn’t going to put the TV back on or jump on social media, that would only be pouring salt in the wound. Instead I decided to finish reading a book that I started earlier in the week. It was Victor Frankl’s “Man’s Search For Meaning”, which came on recommendation from so many thought leaders in Tim Ferriss Book “Tribe of Mentors”. Not that a Steelers loss could ever compare to what Frankl went through in his book, but the application of the lessons were spot on. There are two quotes that really stood out: “You cannot control what happens to you in life, but you can always control what you will feel and do about what happens to you.” “Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.” It is difficult to not have a constant loop of what just happened play in your head. However, you get to choose to suffer through that loop or focus on something else. After finishing the book there was still an hour left in the night. To try and keep the positive reinforcement loop going I decided to do a 12 minute guided meditation session on a new app I’m using called Primed Mind. My goal of doing this was to take control of my emotions, slow things down, get out of my head, and get back to even.

Welcome to the pilot episode of Shot Clock, a new sports trivia show hosted by Bacon Sports Founder Rob Cressy that tests your speed and knowledge of sports trivia, both past and present. Here’s how it works. Just like in basketball, we are going to use a shot clock. To pay homage to the greatest basketball player ever, Michael Jordan, we are going to make it 23 seconds. The goal of Shot Clock is to score as many points as possible. We’ll have 1, 2 and 3 point categories, and then channel our inner MTV Rock n Jock with a 23 point category, which we’ll get to at the end. If you want to play at home and you are watching on Facebook Live then put your answers in the comments.
